Help for the vulnerable this Christmas

NAS_151212_LRChildren in Stafford who suffer from Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC) can now enjoy a special play club even more, thanks to a donation from a local business.

Employees from Changeworks Communications, a Stafford-based public relations and marketing company, were so impressed by the work of the Stay and Play Club they decided to donate £250.

The club, run by the Stafford Branch of the National Autistic Society, provides social support for families who have children with an ASC. Over 20 families attend each group which runs on Saturday mornings at Littleworth Community Centre.

Sarah Binks, NAS Stafford Activity Leader, said: “Children with an ASC have difficulty with social communication and interaction with others which can lead to social isolation and loneliness. Changeworks’ donation will help to fund a range of activities at our Saturday morning club including art and craft, sensory room and resources, and music.”

Sue Tupling, managing director of Changeworks, worked with the group earlier in the year to help put on a special yoga course for the children. Sue added: “At Changeworks we recognise the importance of good communication and strong social networks to people’s wellbeing, especially these kids. The Stay and Play Club truly adds value to the children and their families.”

Changeworks Communications, which is based on the Common Road, in Stafford, aims to donate 5 to 10% of its profits to help local people each Christmas. The company has also given £500 to a charity supporting the homeless, as well as families and the elderly in poverty this year.
