Award-winning estate agency is building ambitions

DourishDay-11_cpStart-up estate agency Dourish and Day (D&D) has enlisted expert business advice as it looks to build on a record first year in business characterised by five-fold growth and prestigious industry award wins.

Providing exceptional service which resulted in numerous recommendations and with an eye catching brand, the Stafford-based company quickly established itself as market leader in the town. Recognising the need to manage its expansion, Dourish & Day decided to work with award-winning business advisors Howards Chartered Certified Accountants to maximise local and regional opportunities and to aid Dourish & Day’s expansion plans.

Howards’ director Ryan Hudson says: “In March last year Steve Dourish and Jeremy Day set up their business – it was just the two of them working out of their high street office. Their vast property experience has enabled them to realise their goals far quicker than they had anticipated and that kind of success brings its own set of challenges!

“We were able to pinpoint areas they could focus on immediately to give them greater control so that they can manage the rapid growth of their business.”

After four months in business Dourish & Day won a Gold award at the British Property Awards. The company has also picked up accolades at the ESTAS – the estate agency equivalent of the Oscars –for the West Midlands and silver award for the best office in the UK. Director Steve Dourish was also shortlisted for an individual peoples award.

Dourish & Day’s accomplishments are attributed to delivering an unrivalled customer experience and introducing residential lettings without tenant application fees. With plans to open branch offices across Staffordshire, creating jobs for local people, the directors appreciate the importance of managing expectations.

Steve says: “It became clear to us early on that we needed a collaborative partner to help us take the business to the next level and we’re delighted to be working with acknowledged experts in the property sector.”

D&D director Jeremy Day adds: “It’s reassuring to work with such a knowledgeable team to manage our business development and finances and, as we expand, we know we can rely on Howards for quality advice that puts our interests first.”

Howards advises Dourish & Day on tax, cash flow, staff recruitment, payroll, pensions, VAT returns and annual accounts. The accountancy firm has also been proactive in encouraging D&D’s directors to move the company to cloud accounting and Making Tax Digital (MTD).
